Love All: The Liberty Open Returns as a Powerful Statement for LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Tennis

Metropolitan Tennis Group’s flagship tournament returns to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, uniting sport, community, and impact

New York, NY Love All. It’s how every tennis match begins — and in 2026, it’s also the guiding principle of the Liberty Open, one of the nation’s premier LGBTQ+ tennis tournaments. More than a score, Love All reflects the tournament’s commitment to fairness, respect, and the freedom to play openly in a sport where that hasn’t always been guaranteed.

At the Liberty Open, Love All sets the tone for how players compete and how they treat one another — from the first serve to the final handshake, and beyond the court. It defines a space rooted in trust and community, where athletes can show up fully, compete openly, and be seen for who they are.

Love All is both a tennis truth and a cultural value,” said Kevin Ko, Liberty Open Tournament Director. “It represents the spirit of this tournament — competitive, inclusive, and grounded in respect. Our continued partnership with the USTA reinforces that LGBTQ+ players belong on tennis’s biggest stages, and that inclusion strengthens the sport as a whole.”

Founded in 1993 by the Metropolitan Tennis Group (MTG) and sanctioned by the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA), the Liberty Open is a flagship event within the global LGBTQ+ tennis community. Each year, the tournament welcomes more than 200 athletes of all levels from near and far to compete across five competitive divisions for all-genders, while fostering meaningful connection on and off the court.

The 2026 Liberty Open is proudly supported by the USTA whose partnership helps elevate visibility, access, and opportunity for LGBTQ+ athletes.

Beyond competition, the Liberty Open is deeply rooted in giving back. Proceeds from the tournament benefit The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and more) young people under 25. LGBTQ+ youth are more than four times as likely to attempt suicide as their peers.

“Sport can be a lifeline — especially when it creates belonging,” said Khai Nguyen, Communications Director, Metropolitan Tennis Group. “Supporting The Trevor Project through the Liberty Open is a tangible way our community shows up for LGBTQ+ youth. Visibility, connection, and care save lives, and this tournament stands at the intersection of all three.”
