The Liberty Open: Over 30 Years of Tennis & Community

Founded in 1993, the Liberty Open has spent over 30 years bringing LGBTQ+ players and allies together through great tennis, community, and plenty of unforgettable moments along the way. Hosted by the Metropolitan Tennis Group, the tournament is currently played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center — home of the US Open — and has grown into one of the premier LGBTQ+ tennis events in the world, with longtime support from the United States Tennis Association and the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance. Beyond the courts, the Liberty Open continues to give back through community partnerships and charitable fundraising efforts supporting organizations like The Trevor Project.

Tournament Theme: Love All

Love All is more than the start of a tennis match — it reflects what the Liberty Open stands for. In a sport where LGBTQ+ players haven’t always felt visible or fully welcomed, the Liberty Open creates space to compete openly, connect authentically, and be seen for who you are — on and off the court.

Rooted in respect, community, and a shared love of the game, the tournament brings players together to compete hard, support one another, and build lasting connections beyond the baseline. It’s not just how we start the match — it’s how we finish, and how we continue forward as a community.
