Marsha Day MTG Club Championships - Since 1997, our Club Championships have been an annual celebration of the spirit of our league. In 2001, the tournament was officially renamed the Marsha Day MTG Club Championships in memory of Marsha Day, a community activist and former MTG board member.
The Marsha Day MTG Club Championships is open only to members of the Metropolitan Tennis Group, and is not a GLTA Tournament.
The 2012 Marsha Day MTG Club Championships will run over Memorial Day Weekend. Match play will start at 8am on Saturday, May 26th and Sunday, May 27th with matches scheduled until 10pm. Matches on Monday, May 28th will start at 9am. We start with singles matches in the morning so if you are playing singles and doubles, you may have early morning matches for singles and have doubles matches later in the evening. As per GLTA rules, you will not be scheduled to play more than 2 matches for one event in any given day.
Draw sizes: Since this is a members’ tournament, we try not to limit the size of the draws to allow more of our members to participate. It makes scheduling a little more difficult but it is worth it to us. That being said, since we are a 3-day tourney, though, we do need to limit any draw size to 64; if any draw was larger than that, there would be no way to limit it to 2 matches per day for an event, which is a GLTA rule.
All matches will be played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Directions to the USTA by public transportation or by car can be found here. For updated subway service advisories visit the MTA.
Proceeds Will Benefit the Following Charities:
Marsha Day Memorial Fund:
The Marsha Day Memorial Fund of the Astraea Organization, which honors the life and work of Marsha Day, a community activist and former MTG board member. The Organization carries on the work of Marsha who was dedicated to working on behalf of runaway and homeless youths, people living with HIV/AIDS, women, and the poor. For more information, visit the Astraea Foundation.
The Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN):
The Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) strives to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. For more information, visit GLSEN.
